On the Fourth Digital New Media Summit, Mrs. Wang Xiao Jie, Director from SARFT, said CMMB will be available through conditional access in the future, however, it will still provide parts of the channels with unencrypted programs to current CMMB users. This solves the concern of many companies that millions of existing CMMB terminals can’t receive programs after CA encryption.

According to the SARFT’s plan, the technology of conditional access will be implanted to CMMB broadcasting soon. Although this action is good for future paid program operation, it also caused great concern from end products companies. Once CA is adopted, the existing one million CMMB terminals will not be able to receive CMMB program anymore.

The declaration from Mrs. Wang wipes off the concerns for CMMB users, and she guaranteed that currents terminals will be able to receive CMMB programs in the future. The CMMB operator, CSMBC, also comments that there will be free channels for CMMB programs and the model of future pay TV will refer to the current cable TV. There are 7 free CMMB channels in China now.
